DMEPOS Medicare Bond Requirement Changes

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sent notice regarding bond requirement changes.  Durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS) supplies will receive letters in January of 2019 announcing dentists are no longer exempt.  Dentists will be required to purchase DMEPOS medicare bonds.

The CMS bond requirement

  • The bond must be obtained through an authorized Surety company
  • Minimum bond amount is $50,000 per location
  • Bond must be obtained within 60 days of receipt of the letter
  • Bond will be required in order to maintain Medicare Provider Transaction Access Number (PTAN)
